Fairfield West, NSW — A large-scale police operation is underway after at least two suspects opened fire on a home in Fairfield West on Thursday, prompting urgent warnings for nearby residents to shelter indoors.
The shooting occurred on Margaret Street, not far from Fairvale School, where police have confirmed that multiple rounds were fired at a residence. Officers from several units rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire shortly after midday.
Heavy Police Presence in the Area
More than two dozen police officers are currently responding to the unfolding incident. Multiple helicopters have been deployed overhead, and numerous police vehicles have cordoned off streets surrounding the affected area as officers search for the suspects.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether anyone inside the targeted home was injured.
Shelter-in-Place Warning Issued
Due to the active nature of the investigation, police are urging residents in Fairfield West, Canley Vale, and Canley Heights to remain indoors until further notice.
“Please shelter in place and avoid the area while officers secure the scene,” authorities stated.
Fairvale School and other nearby facilities have also been alerted as a precaution while police assess the ongoing threat.

Officers are actively searching the surrounding neighbourhoods for the individuals believed to be responsible. No arrests have been announced at this time.
